Rules of Competiton

These rules apply to all competitors who submit video entries to any event on World Wide Champ.  By entering into a World Wide Champ competition, you agree to abide by these rules.

Specific Rules

Continuous footage.  No highlight films.  Don't piece together an entry.  It's one continuous take.  This is not to say you have to submit your first take.  You can videotape yourself an unlimited number of times...and submit the best one.

One camera per entry.  Why?  To remove any doubt from the judges' minds that you might have pieced together portions of multiple takes.  This is not to say you can't move the camera around while filming.  That's up to you.  You just can't use more than one camera.

No more than 5 seconds of up front video footage before the actual athletic performance begins.  Why?  Out of respect for the judges' time.  They are grading lots of videos.  So get rid of as much of the up front footage as you can before you submit your tape.

No resubmissions of the same video to the same event.  If you want to continue competing in the same event category, then keep on training and keep on videotaping yourself.  Submit a new video every time you want to compete.  However, if you do wish to compete in another event (such as another skill level), you may submit the same video, either in the same week or at a later date

Know your sport.  If you submit material that breaks the generally accepted rules of the sport, style, and type in which you are competing, you may get disqualified.  (For example, if you submit a tango performance to a hip-hop competition, you will get disqualified).

Age Brackets.  If you compete in an event that specifies a maximum age (for example, “under 18”), you must be no older than the maximum age (in this example, 17 is the maximum) as of the closing date of the event.  If you compete in an event that specifies a minimum age (for example, “35 and over”), you must be at least as old as the minimum age (in this example, 35 is the minimum) as of the closing date of the event.  Events that do not specify an age (such as ALL AGES) have no age restrictions.

Only current videos taped within the last 12 months.  Please do not search your archives and submit old tapes to current competitions.

Special athletes.  If you enter an event for “Special” athletes, you must have a medically defined disability that permits you to compete in such a category.

You are prohibited from speaking into the camera for the purpose of making any requests or implied requests of the judges of any kind.  Stick to your performance.  The judges will grade you on that and that alone.

You are prohibited from adding any special effects to your video in the midst of the performance.  This means you cannot add any special sound effects, slow motion scenes, text overlays, or the like while the performance is ongoing.  You may utilize the first and last 5 seconds only – before and/or after the performance - for basic effects such as fade in or fade out and the like.

Length of the video.  The length of your video should be no longer than the time it takes to perform a generally accepted performance.  This may be 10 seconds or 2 minutes.  Know your sport.

Acceptance of scores as final.  You agree to abide by the judge's scores and accept the scores, places, points, and rankings as final.

If the judges can't see it, they can't grade it.  Videos and camera angles must be of a quality and viewpoint that judges can grade all relevant aspects of your performance.  If there is a component of your performance that the judges cannot see, either because the quality of the video is too poor or because the angle it is shot at does not permit visibility, you will get no credit for that component.  Stated another way, if the judges cannot see you do something, they will assume you did not perform it at all.  On the other hand, if the judges can see it, you are eligible to get partial credit or full credit for that element of your performance, depending on the judges' assessment of how well you performed that element.

Exceptions

The Exceptions page is located here:  while no event is exempt from the attestations, consequences of violations, and falsification, fraud and cheating sections above, some events will necessarily be organized with certain exceptions to the specific rules listed above.  These exceptions are event-specific.  If you do not see you're event listed in the exceptions page, then there are no exceptions to the above rules.  Even if you do see your event listed in the exceptions page, then you can assume that the above rules still apply, with the exception of the specific rules mentioned in the exceptions page.

Attestations

You, as a competitor and an athlete, attest to the fact that you have joined World Wide Champ to compete in clean, legitimate, substance-free, amateur competitions graded by honest, unbiased judges.

You, as a competitor in World Wide Champ events, attest to the fact that you have not misrepresented yourself in your user account in any fashion, especially but not exclusively your date of birth and your gender.

You attest to the fact that you will not enter into any competition for which your true age, gender, or other factors would, if known, make you ineligible to compete.

You attest that you will only submit videos of legitimate activities that pertain specifically to the categories of your entries.

You attest that you will not submit material that is not relevant to the category of competition that you enter.

You agree that you will be subject to immediate and irreversible termination of your account for submission of vulgar, excessively violent, or pornographic materials.

You attest to the fact that your body was free and clean from alcohol and any performance enhancing substances including any steroids that are barred from widely known sports competitions in your relevant category, as well as all illegally obtained narcotics, at the time of the taping of the videos you submit.

Consequences of Violations

One consequence of violating these rules may be disqualification from the event to which you submitted the video.  If you get disqualified, you will not get any points towards your ranking.  You may be barred from future competitions and your account may be suspended or terminated at the sole discretion of World Wide Champ.

Falsification, Fraud, and Cheating

You should keep in mind when competing here that World Wide Champ is a publicly accessible domain wherein the entire world can see videos of you competing in events.  If you falsify your personal information (like lying about your age), if you commit fraud (like doctoring your videotaped entries), and/or if you attempt to cheat in any way, you are risking your personal credibility and athletic integrity.  If you are caught and disqualified (and/or had your account terminated), you may suffer personal damage.  If you are thinking about cheating, don't do it.  Go back and practice.  Train harder.  Talk to your coach, your teacher, your trainer.  An honest try is more important than winning.
